Hackney & Islington Citizens Celebration

On Thursday 18th May, around 30 members of Hackney & Islington Citizens gathered at St John’s Hoxton for a spring celebration. We were looking back over the achievements of the past year - especially celebrating big wins in our Energy campaign and our SEN support campaign.

One year earlier, at the Mayoral Election Assembly we had asked the Mayoral candidates to stand with us and take action on various important local issues. In particular we had asked for support in responding to the energy crisis by approaching Payzone with us to request Payzone machines for our churches and Foodbank to enable us to make energy donations to local households in need. We had also asked the Mayoral candidates to create a dedicated fund available to local informal support groups working with parents of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

We were delighted that the Mayor of Hackney, Phil Glanville, had convened an energy roundtable discussion to help local groups consider how we respond to the energy crisis. He had also stood with us in asking Payzone to provide equipment. Representatives from Payzone were present to receive a certificate thanking them for their support.

We also presented Phil Glanville with a certificate thanking him for his support with making SEN funding available to local groups. We look forward to reporting how these funds have supported local parent-led groups in the near future.
